Doha, the capital city of Qatar, will host the Olympic Council of Asia's 21st Asian Games in 2030. Doha beats Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, in a vote of 45 National Olympic Committees at the 39th OCA General Assembly held in Muscat, Oman and online. Doha hosted the Asian Games in 2006 and Riyadh will host the 22nd Asian Games in 2034. Qatar and Saudi Arabia were in contention to host the 2030 Asiad. The two nations are also involved in a long-running political dispute amid varied reasons. In an attempt to prevent a diplomatic dispute, OCA President Sheikh Ahmad said he was looking to avoid a vote by persuading one city to hold the 2030 Games while the other staged the following edition in 2034.
