Tennis : Lopez beats Berdych to reach the second round of Indian Wells

Feliciano Lopez of Spain beat Tomas Berdych of the Czech Republic 7-6, 7-6 in a contested Indian Wells first round match on Friday. Both players held their services to decide both sets in a tie-break. It was the Spaniard who played more clinical in the decisive moments of the encounter to claim the victory, with his second match point, after one hour and 59 minutes. Lopez, currently the world number 84, now faces 12th-seed Karen Khachanov of Russia in the second round of Indian Wells.
