CrIcket News: Mumbai Indians record fastest 200+ run chase in IPL history

On Tuesday, May 9, the Mumbai Indians hosted the Royal Challengers Bangalore at the Wankhede Stadium in the rematch between the two teams. After losing to the Faf du Plessis-led team in their first encounter of the season in Bengaluru, the Rohit Sharma-led side drew 1-1 at home against RCB.

The victory was especially meaningful for the host team, as it propelled them to third place in the points table by improving not just their score but also their Net Run Rate (NRR). In doing so, Mumbai Indians set a record for the fastest 200+ run chase in Indian Premier League history.

MI reached 200 runs in 16.3 overs, with 21 balls to spare and six wickets in hand.

Speaking of the game, the Mumbai Indians got off to a fast start, with Jason Behrendorff dismissing Virat Kohli and Anuj Rawat in the first three overs.

Following the early blow, RCB skipper Faf and explosive batsman Glenn Maxwell demonstrated their batting skills, each scoring a half-century. Later, Dinesh Karthik, WaninduHasaranga, and Kedar Jadhav helped RCB post 199/6 in 20 overs.

Mumbai Indians got off to a flying start because to Ishan Kishan unleashing the beast within and scoring a quick-fire 21-ball 42.

Hasaranga dismissed him and MI skipper Rohit Sharma in the same over, but the batting unit was unfazed owing to Suryakumar Yadav's heroics. While Suryakumar Yadav delivered a magnificent performance with a 35-ball 83, Nehal Wadhera's 52*(34) put Mumbai Indians in the hunt.

Before Suryakumar Yadav was removed, the duo accumulated 140 runs for the third wicket off just 66 deliveries. Suryakumar had done the brunt of the work for the five-time champions before coming back to the pavilion, and the middle-order hitters had nothing to worry about. Wadhera concluded the game in style, striking a six that also helped him reach his half-century as MI cruised to victory.
