So far, the Indian Premier League 2023 has been an exhilarating experience, with all ten franchises putting on a magnificent display of cricket in the first month of the tournament.
Rajasthan Royals, the IPL 2022 runners-up, are having another successful season, having won five of their nine matches.
With Rajasthan's starting lineup figured out from the start, several players have been warming the bench throughout the ongoing season. Joe Root is the biggest name from the RR camp who has yet to play. The top batter was purchased for INR 1 crore at the December 2022 mini-auction but has yet to make his IPL debut.
Root recently appeared in a fun 'This or That' game with teammates Devdutt Padikkal and Dhruv Jurel in which they asked the Englishman to pick between playing under MS Dhoni and Virat Kohli.
Root struggled to pick between the two and appeared perplexed as he did not choose a side and remained in the centre.
Notably, Root has appeared in 32 T20Is, accumulating 893 runs at an average of 35.72 and earning five fifties. However, until the mini-auction in 2022, the great batter had not been able to excite bidders in the IPL.
Meanwhile, after winning four of the first five games of the season, the Sanju Samson-led team has stumbled and lost three of their past four games. In the previous match, RR produced a mammoth 212/7 after deciding to bat first, thanks to a magnificent century by Yashasvi Jaiswal (124 off 62).
In response, Mumbai completed a thrilling chase, winning by six wickets with three balls to spare. Despite RR's defeat, Jaiswal, 21, was named Player of the Match for his stunning knock. Rajasthan will play Gujarat Titans at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium in Jaipur on Friday, May 5.
So far, RR have earned 10 points after playing 9 games this season as they stand 4th in the league table. Meanwhile, MS Dhoni's CSK sits 3rd with 11 points in 10 games and Kohli's RCB's sits 5th after having 10 points from 9 games.
