Tennis : Defending champion Osaka beats Wickmayer to reach third round in Miami

Defending champion Naomi Osaka won her opening match at the new site of the Miami Open, eclipsing qualifier Yanina Wickmayer in three sets.The Japanese world number one needed two hours and 10 minutes to complete a 6-0, 6-7 (3-7), 6-1 victory over her Belgian counterpart.Osaka hit 14 aces and overcame a ragged stretch in the second set, when she became so frustrated she threw her racket.But the defending U.S. Open and Australian Open champion regrouped and has now won 63 consecutive matches when she has taken the opening set.Osaka next faces Hsieh Su-wei after the Taiwanese beat American Alison Riske in straight sets earlier on Friday.
