Tokyo Olympics : PV Sindhu 'really really happy' after becoming first Indian woman to win two Olympic medals

In defeating China's He Bing Jiao in Sunday's bronze medal match at the Tokyo Games, P.V. Sindhu became the first Indian woman to win two Olympic medals. Sindhu defeated Bing Jiao 21-13, 21-15 in the women's badminton competition. Chen Yu Fei of China won gold, the top seed holding off Tai Tzu-Ying of Taiwan 21-18, 19-21, 21-18. Sindhu earned a silver medal at the Rio Olympics in 2016. SOUNDBITE (English) P.V. Sindhu, bronze medal, badminton "Well, definitely, I'm really really happy, you know, that I got bronze at the Olympics because, yes, back then in 2016, it was silver. And again, after five years, getting a medal and standing on the podium is definitely a proud moment for me and my country. I have no words because, you know, I'm really very happy and I thank all my fans, all my supporters, my family members, my support staff and my sponsors. I think without their support, you know, I wouldn't have been here. And definitely a proud woman. So I would like to thank everybody out there and in India because, you know, they show a lot of support and love." "In these COVID situations, Olympics happening is a very big thing. So obviously, I, of course, out of respect to the Japanese guys and all the all the people out there, because I'm sure they've done a really, really great job. And, of course, it's definitely a hard thing because they have to really work hard day and night. So hats off to them.
