Tokyo Olympics : DAY-11: Historic SF for Women's team, Kamalpreet & shooters disappoint

The Indian women's hockey team have pulled off one of the greatest upsets as they have beaten the mighty Australians 1-0 to enter semi-finals of Tokyo Olympics. India held onto their lead through Gurjit Kaur who scored via drag flick through a penalty corner in the second quarter and the defence stood tall to maintain the lead till the very end. India's defence stood tall as goal-keeper Savita Punia saved many penalty corners and the defenders also cleared the ball. This is Indian women's team's first ever Olympic semi-final. This a historic and a proud moment for Indian hockey as no one expected them to beat mighty Aussies and reach the semi-final. Indian shooters Aishwary Pratap Singh Tomar and Sanjeev Rajput failed to breach the top 8 ranks as they missed the cut for the for 50m Rifle 3 Positions men's finals. Tomar finished 21st with a total score of 1167 while Rajput ended a disappointing 32nd with a total score of 1157. Kamalpreet Kaur finishes sixth in the women's discus throw final with a best attempt of 63.70 metres. She had started well in the women's discus throw final as she threw 61.62 in her first attempt but had a foul in the second before rain halted play. She threw 63.70 in her third to avoid getting knocked out after the first three throws. She had another foul in her fourth throw and only managed 61.37 in her fifth. She threw another foul in her final attempt to finish sixth. India's star sprinter Dutee Chand failed to qualify for the semi-final of the women's 200m event in Tokyo at the Olympic Stadium - Track 2 on Monday. Running in Heat 4, Dutee finished with a season-best timing of 23.85 but it was no good as she finished 7th and as a result, she failed to qualify for the semi-final. India's Fouaad Mirza ended his journey at the Tokyo Olympics in 23rd position after the final round of show jumping. Scores for the final round included penalties incurred in the qualifying rounds too. Mirza, who came in with an aggregate of 47.20 points from the three stages of eventing did not stand a chance of making the podium. It is an encouraging finish for the rider and horse who are both making their Olympic debuts. This pair also won India two silver medals at the 2018 Asian Games in Jakarta.
