At Old Trafford on Thursday night, Manchester United defeated Omonia 1-0 thanks to a goal from Scott Mc Tominay in the 93rd minute. Francis Uzoho, the goalkeeper for Omonia, put up an outstanding performance for Neil Lennon's team, which was poised to earn their first Group E point with a draw in Manchester.
The win kept Erik ten Hag's team in second place in Group E, three points behind Real Sociedad, as they finally broke through in the final stages.
Marcus Rashford collected a short corner and sent one toward goal for Man United, who had a total of 34 shots, in the third minute, but Omonia goalkeeper Uzoho was there to make a spectacular save.
When Rashford set up Cristiano Ronaldo for the home team's next opportunity in the ninth minute, the Portugal international's shot went into the side netting.
After Rashford's goal-bound attempt was deflected away for a corner, Bruno Fernandes unleashed a thunderous low drive into the Omonia area that went unnoticed by the players in green and red.
When Fernandes sent the ball to Rashford inside the penalty area in the 22nd minute, Man United should have taken the lead, but Uzoho made an outstanding save.
After that, Rashford was denied once more by Uzoho, and Omonia survived yet another scary period to maintain their unblemished record as the half-hour mark approached. Fernandes then curled one just beyond of the opposition's goal.
Ronaldo missed the Omonia post with a shot in the 32nd minute, and then Casemiro hit the crossbar from a distance with replays indicating that Uzoho touched the ball.
Then Omonia had a fantastic opportunity of their own on the break, with Bruno shooting wide of the post when he would have squared it for Andronikos Kakoullis. Fred was the next to go close, headed an Antony cross over the crossbar.
During a dominant stretch for Ten Hag's team, Uzoho produced two outstanding saves to stop Antony and then Rashford in the early stages of the second half. The goalie also stopped Fred and Ronaldo.
Just after the hour mark, Luke Shaw assisted Fernandes with a low cross, but the forward's shot went wide. Twenty minutes from time, Uzoho again denied Ronaldo.
Omonia sank further and deeper as the minutes passed and Man United continued to try to win the game. Finally, in stoppage time, the breakthrough was made when Mc Tominay collected a deflected Sancho crossand drove the ball low and hard past the Omonia goalkeeper, who was helpless in this instance.
Shortly after his arrival, McTominay was the next player to put Omonia's outstanding goalkeeper to the test. The Scotland international saw his low attempt blocked.
Man United will host Sheriff Tiraspol in their next European match on October 27, while Omonia will host Real Sociedad on the same night. Man United will return to Premier League action against Newcastle United on Sunday.
