Football News : Barcelona on the verge of being knocked out from last 16 after Inter Milan draw

Barcelona could miss out on the knockout stages of the Champions League for the second consecutive season after Inter Milan earned a point in a 3-3 draw against them on Wednesday night at Camp Nou.

The Catalan giants went into the game certain that only a victory would give them a chance to actually advance to the competition's last-16 round. Barcelona took the lead thanks to an effort from Ousmane Dembele in the first half, but Inter turned the game around in the second half with goals from Nicolo Barella and Lautaro Martinez to go up 2-1 until Robert Lewandowski equalised late.

But the visitors weren't done yet, as a shot from Robin Gosens appeared to have given them the victory, leaving only for Lewandowski to tie the score in the dying seconds.

The next European match for Xavi's team will take place on October 26 against already-qualified Bayern Munich, while the guests will play Plzen that same evening. Xavi's team is currently third in Group E, three points behind Inter.

In the eighth minute, Martinez broke into a forward position and fired toward goal, narrowly missing the target. Shortly after, the offside flag was waved, giving Barcelona some pause.

Henrikh Mkhitaryan quickly cleared Lewandowski's header off the line, and Raphinha's long-range shot was barely wide of the crossbar.

In the 16th minute, Inter's Edin Dzeko struck the crossbar. Inter continued to appear dangerous in the first half, and Barcelona goalkeeper Marc-Andre ter Stegen had to stop Denzel Dumfries' hard shot in the 29th.

Raphinha was the next to have a chance, missing the post with a shot from a Lewandowski cross, but Barcelona was able to score late in the opening frame.

After being let free by a deft pass from Raphinha, Sergi Roberto crossed the ball into the penalty area, where Dembele was waiting to tap it in from close range.

Alessandro Bastoni's ball allowed Barella to run off of Pique before controlling it and beating Ter Stegen to tie the score for Inter early in the second half.

The Italian team subsequently scored their second goal in the 63rd minute when Martinez sped past Eric Garcia and struck the ball off both posts.

The offside flag was raised after Lewandowski drove the ball into the Inter goal in the 70th minute, but the Poland international had two more chances in the subsequent period.

Lewandowski finally scored in the 82nd minute when his deflected shot found a way past Andre Onana in the Inter goal.

Lewandowski headed a late equaliser to keep Barcelona's last-16 hopes just about alive with two rounds of games remaining. Inter appeared to break Barcelona's hearts in the dying seconds when Gosens met a cross from Martinez to make it 3-2.Kristjan Asllani actually had a fantastic opportunity to win it for Inter late on a counterattack, but Ter Stegen made a crucial save, resulting in a 3-3 tie.
