Football News : Graham Potter agrees to Chelsea’s job offer

Graham Potter, the manager of Brighton & Hove Albion, apparently consented to become the new Chelsea manager. After Chelsea unexpectedly fired Champions League-winning coach Thomas Tuchel on Wednesday morning, the Englishman swiftly became the front-runner for the vacant Stamford Bridge position.

The Blues reportedly also spoke with Mauricio Pochettino, but Potter was their top pick. According to talk SPORT, the two parties' negotiations have gone smoothly.

Chelsea are now hopeful of concluding the meeting today after Brighton granted them permission to speak with their manager yesterday. Following face-to-face discussions with Todd Boehly, who fired Tuchel exactly 100 days after taking over the club,

The majority of Blues supporters find the choice hard to accept, as do reports that the club's new American owners had discussed firing Tuchel earlier in the summer before going on a spending spree that was compared to - and possibly exceeded - that of the early years of the Roman Abramovich period.

However, contradictions are everywhere. Why has Boehly allowed Tuchel to select the players of his choosing throughout the summer transfer window if he meant to fire him months ago? Particularly, why, when there were several other, better options available, would Chelsea rely on Tuchel's friendship with Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang to persuade the Barcelona player to return to the Premier League?

Potter is said to have that he is happy to take over at Chelsea right away. It is now anticipated that Potter, a 47-year-old former manager of Swansea City, will be hired in time to take command of Fulham on Saturday at Craven Cottage in the West London derby.

In addition to the £15 million it is rumoured to have cost Chelsea to fire Tuchel, reports have stated that Chelsea will have to spend up to £20 million in compensation to entice Potter away from the Amex Stadium.

The Blues just completed the most expensive summer transfer window in English football history, splashing out more than £250 million on new additions.

Three of their previous five games have ended in defeat for Potter's squad, which included a shocking 1-0 Champions League loss to Dinamo Zagreb on Tuesday, which turned out to be Tuchel's 100th and final game in charge.

After six games, Chelsea is currently in tenth place in the Premier League standings, five points behind early leaders Arsenal.
