Football News : Liverpool’s humiliating loss to Napoli disappoints Klopp

After Liverpool was humiliated by Napoli 4-1 in the Champions League, manager Jurgen Klopp proposed that his team "reinvent" itself.

Following their unblemished record from the previous campaign, the Reds entered their Group A opener looking to become the first English team to win seven consecutive Champions League group games.

The Partenopei, who were ahead 3-0 at the break thanks to goals from, Piotr Zielinski, Andre Zambo Anguissa, and Giovanni Simeone, however, outfought and humiliated Klopp and his team.

Just after the break, Napoli went up by four goals thanks to Zielinski's second goal of the game. The Reds responded with Luis Diaz's consolation goal, but Klopp's team was unable to change the course of the game.

The encounter marked the worst opening-game loss for an English team in the Champions League in 19 years. The Liverpool manager apologised to the away section after the match.

After his team's defeat at the Stadio Diego Armando Maradona, Klopp acknowledged that Wolverhampton Wanderers, whom Liverpool will play in the Premier League this weekend, probably "cannot stop laughing."

"We played here when we lost 2-0 and that was an awful game. It looks like we have to reinvent ourselves,"

Klopp said.

"There is a lot of things lacking, the fun part is that we have to do it in the middle of a Premier League and Champions League season."

"We have Wolves on Saturday and if they saw the game tonight, they cannot stop laughing, they would say - and I would too - it is the perfect moment to play them. We have to set up better in pretty much everything."

"The high line is only a risk when we don't have pressure on the ball. We need a high line. The problem was we didn't get close enough to them to put them under pressure,"

Klopp added.

Overall, it was an awful performance from Liverpool and if they keep playing like this, they might not even find a spot in the Europa League.

On Wednesday, Thomas Tuchel, a fellow countryman of Klopp, lost his job at Chelsea following a Champions League defeat to Dinamo Zagreb, and the 55-year-old was questioned about his future.

Klopp, though, told the press that he is not unduly worried about the possibility of losing his job:

"Not really, but who knows? The difference [between us and Chelsea] is we have different kind of owners. Ours are calm and expect me to sort it and not think someone else will."

Wolves will visit Anfield on Saturday, and Liverpool will look to bounce back before Ajax, who crushed Rangers 4-0 on Wednesday, visits Merseyside for matchday two of the Champions League the following week.
