Football News : Chelsea agrees personal terms with Leicester’s Fofana on a six-year deal

According to noted journalist Fabrizio Romano, Chelsea and Leicester City defender Wesley Fofana have already reached a personal agreement on a six-year contract. This summer, the Blues were busy in the transfer market as they bought some key players who could regularly feature in the first-team.

The Blues bring in Raheem Sterling, Kalidou Koulibaly, Gabriel Slonina, Carney Chukwuemeka, and Marc Cucurella. Meanwhile, Cesare Casadei of Inter Milan's transfer is also close to being finalised.

The arrivals of Fofana and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang might come after this. The talks are still going on. Chelsea has not yet agreed to pay Leicester's £85 million asking price for Fofana, but Romano has revealed that the two parties have already reached a personal six-year contract agreement.

Chelsea is set on acquiring Leicester's Fofana, but the Midlands club is in a good position to negotiate as he only recently signed a new long-term contract. Fofana's current deal with Brendan Rodgers' team runs through the summer of 2027, and the Foxes doesn't seem set to budge unless the Blues agree to their transfer demands.

It's very likely to occur shortly. The most recent Chelsea offer is for £72 million, less than £10 million in add-ons.

Although the valuation is close to what they are offering, the Foxes can demand payment in full up front.

The coming days might be crucial for achieving a breakthrough in the negotiations. Chelsea was in a strong position to recruit Jules Kounde from Sevilla last summer, but a price agreement could not be reached.

This time, the Frenchman passed them over for Barcelona. Chelsea will have taken a lesson from the transfer debacle and will need to take extra precautions to make sure they don't lose out on Fofana.

The 21-year-transfer old's to Chelsea may need to be finalised by the end of the week if the Foxes are to cooperate. Before the deadline, the club will need time to identify a suitable successor.

Fofana was hailed as a "phenomenal talent" by Foxes manager Brendan Rodgers earlier in April, and he would not want to lose him in the last hours of the transfer window without a reliable replacement in place.

Meanwhile, the Blues will be next up against Leeds United at Elland Road. Thomas Tuchel's new campaign has a mixed start so far as Chelsea have won and drawn 1 in their respective 2 games in the Premier League this season.
