Football News : Manchester United on verge of signing Real Madrid’s Casemiro

According to reports, Manchester United and Real Madrid are close to agreeing on a transfer deal for Brazilian midfielder Casemiro to Old Trafford. The Red Devils chased a move for Frenkie de Jong of Barcelona throughout the whole of the summer transfer season, but they now appear to have lost interest in the Dutchman and are concentrating on other targets.

Over the past 24 hours, Casemiro has been closely associated with the team, and with negotiations between the two clubs going swiftly, it is believed that Man United is now close to finalising a deal.

Jason Burt, a journalist for The Telegraph, claims that the 20-time English champions are close to finalising a £60 million transfer, with the transaction possibly closing "in the next few days."

Since joining Real Madrid in 2013, Casemiro has made 336 appearances for the team, scoring 31 goals and dishing out 29 assists. The Brazilian international has been a key component of Madrid's recent success.

He shone when on loan at Porto during the 2014-15 season before returning to Madrid. The defensive midfielder played in 48 matches across all competitions last season, helping Carlo Ancelotti's team to victories in La Liga, the Champions League, and the Spanish Super Cup.

Since moving to Bernabeu from Sao Paulo, the South American has amassed a total of five Champions League titles, one Copa del Rey, three league championships, and one Copa del Rey.

Although Casemiro's contract at Real Madrid still has three more years to run, it is rumoured that he has been offered a sizable compensation to transfer to Old Trafford.

According to writer Fernando Burgos, the midfielder has been given the opportunity to quadruple his pay to £8.4 million annually with a five-year commitment to Manchester.

Fabrizio Romano, an Italian journalist, claimed on Thursday that Casemiro is "tempted" by the offer made by the 20-time English champions.

"Casemiro will have a conversation with Carlo Ancelotti in the next hours to discuss his future, as Manchester United contract proposal received yesterday is tempting him,"

Romano posted on Twitter.

Casemiro had been expected to start against Celta Vigo on Saturday after being benched for Real Madrid's La Liga opener against Almeria last weekend.

Christian Eriksen's summer addition to Man United's midfield has given them a lift, but they are still looking to add a holding player, and Casemiro appears to be the top candidate.

When they play Liverpool on Monday night, Erik Ten Hag's team will be looking to avenge their consecutive losses at the start of the new Premier League season.
