In what has come as a welcome move by the Marylebone Cricket Club as the club has decided to adopt the gender-neutral term "batter" instead of "batsman" with immediate effect in an attempt to reinforce cricket's status as an inclusive game. The amendments to the laws were approved by the MCC Committee which is recognised as the sole authority on cricket's laws since its foundation in 1787 and the changes will take immediate effect.
