Gael Monfils claimed his first title for 13 months at the World Tennis Tournament in Rotterdam, following a hard-fought and entertaining final against Stan Wawrinka. In the first Rotterdam final for 11 years to feature two unseeded players, the French world number 33 triumphed 6-3, 1-6, 6-2 in an hour and 44 minutes. While 2015 champion Wawrinka is on the comeback trail after double knee surgery, Monfils had been taking painkillers all week to ease a left wrist injury. But both men overcame their troubles with a crowd-pleasing display of high-quality tennis, Monfils remaining patient and focused - which has not always been the case in his career - to seal the title in Rotterdam, three years after losing in the final to Martin Klizan.
