Thomas Tuchel: 'I'm devastated after Chelsea exit'

Thomas Tuchel indicated that the Chelsea decision to fire him earlier this week left him feeling "devastated."

Due to the German's erratic start to the new season, the Premier League club confirmed on Wednesday morning that they had parted ways with him. Despite having 10 points after six games in England's top division, Chelsea's UCL loss at Dinamo Zagreb by a score of 1-0 prompted the club to make its choice.

Despite letting the 49-year-old spend the most money on new players in a single transfer window in the history of the club, co-owner Todd Boehly reportedly decided to fire Tuchel some time ago.

Tuchel has not commented in the five days since leaving Stamford Bridge, but on Sunday night he made the choice to publish a rare social media message.

"This is one of the most difficult statements I have ever had to write - and it is one which I hoped I would not need to do for many years."

Said Tuchel on Twitter.

"I am devastated that my time at Chelsea has come to an end."

"This is a club where I felt at home, both professionally and personally. Thank you so much to all the staff, the players and the supporters for making me feel very welcome from the start.

"The pride and joy I felt at helping the team to win the Champions League and the Club World Cup will stay with me forever."

"I am honoured to have been a part of this club's history and the memories of the last 19 months will always have a special place in my heart."

In his 100 matches as manager, Tuchel not only left West London with three awards but also with a total of 60 victories and 16 losses.

Before assuming a new position elsewhere, the former manager of Borussia Dortmund and PSG is now anticipated to spend some time away from the dugout.

Graham Potter, who had signed a five-year deal to leave Brighton & Hove Albion, was quickly hired by Chelsea as his replacement.

The Englishman's first challenge is to get Chelsea started in the Champions League with a Wednesday night home match against Red Bull Salzburg.

Meanwhile the Blues have assured that the new manager will get sufficient time to prove himself. Thus, Chelsea fans are optimistic about the Blues future under the guidance of former Brighton manager.
