Alvaro Morata, a forward for Atletico Madrid, may be a target for Manchester United during the January transfer window. Marcus Rashford has recovered his best form both during the World Cup break and through out the tournament in Qatar.
He is now a viable option for both the flank and the centre of the attack. However, because of Anthony Martial's ongoing injuries and Cristiano Ronaldo's well-publicized exit, United may run out of choices for center-forwards.
It has been alleged for a number of months that Erik ten Hag was interested in acquiring PSV Eindhoven forward Cody Gakpo around the halfway point of the season. The Netherlands international himself had previously expressed desire in a move to Old Trafford, but on Wednesday night he completed a shocking transfer to Liverpool.
According to ESPN, Ten Hag is upset that United didn't sign a player he thought would be perfect for his forward line at Old Trafford. According to the same report, United may now turn their attention to Atletico striker Morata as they look into possible loan agreements.
In La Liga and the Champions League this season, Morata has made up to 16 starts and three substitute appearances, scoring five goals.
It was assumed that Morata would stay at Wanda Metropolitano given the departure of Matheus Cunha and ongoing rumours over Joao Felix's future.
However, if Atletico are open to loan offers, the Spain international might become a possibility, with much potentially riding on if a solution is found with Felix.
Even though the 23-year-old Portuguese sensation is claimed to have many fans in the Premier League, Atletico is apparently pushing on a straight forward loan agreement.
According to the report, any team that wants to move forward with a deal for Felix could expect to spend around €120 million (£105.96 million) for the remainder of the season.
That is a notion that seems likely to leave United looking at alternative choices at this point given their limited transfer budget. Due to their early exit from the Champions League and inability to qualify for the Europa League, Atletico is currently in the process of making changes to their roster.
