Football News: Marco Verratti signs new Paris Saint-Germain contract until 2026

Marco Verratti, a midfielder for Paris Saint-Germain, recently extended his contract with the French champions through 2026. The international player from Italy has extended his contract at Parc des Princes for an additional two seasons.

His original terms were set to expire at the conclusion of the 2023-24 season. Verratti has lived in Paris for more than ten years after moving there from Pescara in the summer of 2012 for just €12 million. despite recent injuries that have afflicted him and his performance PSG have offered him a new deal.

"It gives me great pride to extend my contract with Paris Saint-Germain."

Verratti told the official PSG website.

"I have always received a lot of support from the club and the fans since I started and I am very grateful for that. It was obvious to me that my story would continue to be written here. I hope to win many more trophies in the Rouge & Bleu shirt."

Verratti was hailed as one of the "greatest players of his generation" by president Nasser Al-Khelaifi, who also praised the "wonderful news" of the Italian signing a two-year extension.

the PSG president added.

"Marco has been such a central figure in shaping the story and success of Paris Saint-Germain over the past 10 years, while being one of the best players of his generation."

Verratti has scored 11 goals and 61 assists in 399 appearances for PSG in all competitions over his ten years in the French capital, he registered seven goals and 42 assists from 262 Ligue 1 games.

With eight crowns, the former Pescara youth holds the record for most victories by a player in France's top division. He has also set a club record with 29 honours while playing for PSG.

Verratti has won nine Trophee des Champions awards, six Coupe de France championships, six Coupe de la Ligue championships, eight Ligue 1 championships, and last year's Euro 2020 championship with Italy.

Vitinha, Renato Sanches, Fabian Ruiz, and Carlos Soler were the four new faces PSG added to their midfield over the summer, but Verratti has remained the starter in the attacking third and has one assist from 21 appearances across all competitions this season.

In PSG's 2-1 victory over Strasbourg on Wednesday night, Verratti played the entire game. Marquinhos and Kylian Mbappe scored the goals before Neymar was sent off for two bookable offences.
