Barcelona are reportedly considering re-signing Neymar this summer after the forward was told that he is free to leave Paris Saint-Germain during the current transfer window.
The 31-year-old's father recently dismissed reports that he told the French champions that he wanted to explore greener pastures before the window expires.
PSG, on the other hand, are reported to be keen to offload him this summer, with new head coach Luis Enrique aiming to steer the team in a different direction.
There is talk that Neymar will miss his side's Ligue 1 opener against Lorient on Saturday due to the intrigue around his future.
However, according to The Independent, Barcelona are considering re-signing the South American on loan for the 2023-24 season with an option to buy next summer.
PSG is said to seek at least £50 million for Neymar, which would be impossible for Barcelona given their financial difficulties, although an initial loan move is regarded to be doable.
Neymar joined Camp Nou from Santos in 2013, and he spent four tremendously successful seasons with the Catalan club before a stunning switch to PSG.
In 186 games with Barcelona, he scored 105 goals and registered 76 assists, winning two La Liga titles, three Copa del Rey titles, the Champions League, the Club World Cup, and the Spanish Super Cup.
Meanwhile, Neymar has made 173 appearances for PSG, scoring 118 goals and registering 77 assists while adding 13 titles to his trophy collection.
Despite missing much of last season due to an ankle ailment, the attacker managed to score 18 goals and record 17 assists in 29 games across all competitions.
Lionel Messi left PSG when his contract expired at the end of June, and there is also persistent uncertainty over Kylian Mbappe's future.
Due to his contract predicament, Enrique's side are reported to be attempting to sell the France international this summer, but the forward has apparently stated that he will not be leaving the club under any circumstances until the end of the window.
Mbappe's standoff makes an exit for Neymar even more plausible, and he is expected to join the Saudi Pro League if a deal to Barcelona does not happen.
Due to the imminent transfer of Ousmane Dembele to PSG, the La Liga champions, who have signed Oriol Romeu, Ilkay Gundogan, and Inigo Martinez in the current market, will look for at least one more forward this summer.
