The recently-concluded FIDE Online Chess Olympiad finished in the most dramatic fashion than it could ever be expected with India and Russia announced as the joint gold medal winners. The story behind how India finished on top spot is indeed spine-chilling. In the final round, two Indian players were declared to have lost on time after an apparent loss of internet connection for them, on which India made an official appeal against the result and after discussing on the matter FIDE President Arkady Dvorkovich had made a decision to give gold medals to both teams. Indian chess player Koneru Humpy was also one of the members of the winning team from India, who displayed a brilliant prowess and contributed a major role in India’s victory.
