Qatar defeated 2019 Asian Cup hosts the United Arab Emirates 4-0 in a politically charged semi-final on Tuesday in Abu Dhabi. Tensions erupted even before kickoff when the capacity crowd at Mohammed Bin Zayed Stadium booed the Qatar national anthem. Qatar replied on the pitch, opening in the 22nd minute when Boualem Khoukhi slipped a shot under the arms of Emirates goalkeeper Khalid Eisa to make it 1-0. Almoez Ali scored his eighth goal of the tournament in the 37th minute to put Qatar ahead 2-0. Then, after Hasan Al-Haydos extended the lead to 3-0 in the 80th, fans threw drinks bottles onto the pitch with several Qatari players struck. The Emirates' Ismail Ahmed was sent off in stoppage time before substitute Hamid Ismaeil capped the night of free-scoring on a 4-0 Qatar victory that sends them into Friday's final against Japan.
