Football News: Real Madrid 'planning Erling Braut Haaland move in 2024'

Real Madrid are apparently still interested in signing Manchester City striker Erling Braut Haaland in the summer of 2024.

Last year, Los Blancos were one of several clubs interested in signing the Norwegian international, but Man City were the first to activate the €60 million (£53.1 million) release clause in his Borussia Dortmund contract.

Haaland has taken the Premier League by storm after arriving in Manchester for a reasonable price, scoring 47 goals in 40 games this season and adding six assists.

In Saturday's 3-1 win over Leicester City, the 22-year-old scored his 31st and 32nd Premier League goals of the season, tying Mohamed Salah's record for most goals in a 38-game Premier League season.

Away from the Premier League, Haaland has 11 goals in the Champions League as Manchester City go to face Bayern Munich in the quarter-final second leg on Wednesday with a 3-0 advantage from last week's match at the Etihad.

The triple is still on the table for Pep Guardiola's side, who thrashed Burnley 6-0 in the FA Cup quarter-finals - with Haaland scoring a hat-trick - to set up a Wembley showdown with Sheffield United in the final four.

The striker is under contract with Man City until the end of the 2026-27 season, but his long-term future has been put into question in recent months, as his contract reportedly includes a €200 million (£177.1 million) release clause.

However, it has since been reported that Guardiola's contract extension has rendered Haaland's release clause null and useless, which means that interested clubs will have to negotiate a deal directly with Man City.

Nonetheless, Fichajes reports that Real Madrid have not given up hope of luring Haaland away from the Etihad next summer as they prepare to replace star striker Karim Benzema.

Los Blancos feel the 22-year-old can follow in the footsteps of Benzema and spearhead the attack for the next decade, although it is unknown whether he would be receptive to a move to Madrid.

Real Madrid is also said to be interested in Kylian Mbappe, who snubbed the Spanish champions last year to sign a two-year contract deal with Paris Saint-Germain with a 2025 option.

Mbappe has hinted that he would not leave the Parc des Princes this summer, although he might go in 2024 if his 12-month option is not exercised.
