Football News: Manchester United 'begin process to sign Harry Kane'

Manchester United are reportedly stepping up their pursuit of Tottenham Hotspur star Harry Kane. The future of England captain Harry Kane has been a major topic of debate in recent summer transfer windows.

As Spurs previously fending off interest from Manchester City, who then went on to sign Erling Haaland. However, the long-serving frontman has yet to sign new terms with the North Londoners.

The England international has just 14 months left on his current deal with Spurs. While rumours say that chairman Daniel Levy may not sell the 29-year-old at the end of the season, it remains a viable option.

Spurs cannot afford to risk losing a player worth almost £100 million on a free transfer in 2024. Also, given their struggles to qualify for next season's Champions League, the London club can't afford two huge loses.

Spurs were blasted 6-1 by Newcastle United on Sunday afternoon, leaving them six points behind the top 4 spots. Such a circumstance would undoubtedly affect Kane as he considers his next move.

While Spurs are also without a permanent manager, having fired interim manager Cristian Stellini on Monday. According to The Telegraph, United are now ready to start talks for Kane about a summer transfer.

Levy would prefer not to trade Kane to a Premier League competitor, particularly Manchester United, because the two clubs have not always had a cordial relationship behind the scenes.

Nonetheless, United and potentially Chelsea, who are expected to employ former Tottenham Hotspur manager Mauricio Pochettino as their new head coach, are the only Premier League clubs that are feasible destinations for Kane at this time.

According to the source, there is a growing anticipation that Kane will not contemplate signing a new contract at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, which will only fuel a United bid.

According to journalist Matt Law, 'due diligence' is apparently being conducted by United, who would seek alternatives if it became clear that Spurs would not sell their most valued asset to them.

Kane has yet to win a domestic trophy, and United, who reached their second cup final of the season on Sunday, are looking for a new centre forward.
