Football News: Chelsea to rekindle their interest in PSG forward this summer

Chelsea are reportedly planning to reignite their interest in PSG forward Neymar during the summer transfer window.

Neymar has spent the previous six years in Paris after moving from Barcelona for a world-record £198 million in 2017. In 173 appearances across all competitions for PSG, the Brazilian has scored 118 goals and supplied 77 assists.

Neymar's contract expires in June 2025, with a one-year extension option, although there is suspicion that PSG will try to move him this summer.

PSG president Nasser Al-Khelaifi is implementing a new transfer plan, emphasising recruiting France's greatest young prospects above bringing in players based on their name and status.

The shift in strategy has cast doubt on the futures of Kylian Mbappe, Lionel Messi, and Neymar ahead of the 2023-24 season.

Mbappe is certain to stay at PSG, but the club is no longer pursuing a new contract for Messi, who is set to go on a free transfer when his contract expires in June.

Meanwhile, Neymar has been plagued by injuries this season, and at the age of 31, the approaching summer transfer window may be the Brazilian international's final opportunity to command a high cost.

Chelsea may rekindle their interest in Neymar after inquiring about his availability earlier this year, according to The Mirror.

Chelsea co-owner Todd Boehly apparently met with PSG president in February to explore a possible trade.

The Blues have spent more than 600 million in the last two transfer windows and are set to offload players to meet Financial Fair Play standards.

They are still likely to add players this summer, with a new forward being one of their top goals.

If they decide to pursue a deal for Neymar, they may face competition from an undisclosed Premier League team that is rumoured to be interested.
Neymar is presently out after suffering a season-ending ankle injury in February, yet he still managed to score 18 goals and assist 17 times in 29 competitive matches throughout the 2022-23 season.
