Yamaha rider Maverick Vinales was the quickest after the second free practice session on Friday ahead of qualifying for the Grand Prix of the Americas. Wet weather is forecast for most of Saturday in Austin which would see the times from FP2 used as the first and second qualifying classifications for the Grand Prix. With that in mind Vinales boosted his chances of victory on Sunday by setting the fastest time of 2 minutes, 03.857 seconds. Vinales finished 0.044 seconds ahead of Honda's Marc Marquez with Valentino Rossi in third on his Yamaha. Ducati's Jack Miller finished in fourth with Cal Crutchlow of Honda completing the top five.
