Madison Keys reached the quarter-finals of the Charleston Open for a fourth time in seven years after beating Jelena Ostapenko in straight sets. Eighth seeds Keys dropped serve in the opening game of the match, but the American broke in two successive Ostapenko service games to take a 5-3 lead. Ostapenko broke back before holding serve to level at 5-5, but the Latvian suffered the third break - this time to love - in the 12th game and Keys won the set 7-5. Keys forced back-to-back breaks of serve once again at the business end of the second set to wrap up a 7-5, 6-2 win. A Charleston finalist in 2015, Keys will take on top seed Sloane Stephens or Ajla Tomljanovic in the quarter-finals.
