Third seed Petra Kvitova fended off a sustained challenge from Donna VeKic, to reach the fourth round of the Miami Open with a 6-4 3-6 6-4 victory. The Czech player was on court for well over two hours, and was constantly under pressure. Both players were broken early on, which set the tone for much of the match - Kvitova snatched another crucial one in the tenth game of the opening set to take it 6-4. Vecic eradicated many of the errors from her game as the second set unfolded, and broke twice to ease into an early 3-0 lead. Kvitova forced her way back into contention but Vekic did enough to power though the set, taking it 6-3 to force the match into a decider. But the third seed broke in the opening game of the third set, and defended the break points she faced impressively to serve out for the win.
