Following victory over Naomi Osaka for the loss of just four games, Bencic beat fifth seed Karolina Pliskova 6-3, 4-6, 6-3 to reach the semi-finals of the event for the first time. Standing between Bencic and her second straight final will be the winner of the last quarter-final between two former world number ones - Angelique Kerber and Venus Williams.
