Russia's Karen Khachanov went through to the Indian Wells quarter-finals after beating John Isner 6-4, 7-6 (7-1) on Wednesday. A lone break of serve in the fifth game was enough for the Russian to take the first set. Isner fought back in the second and had two break points to Khachanov's one, but neither player was able to take their chances. The match was decided by a tie-breaker, which the Russian dominated 7-1. In the next round, the number 12 seed will try to beat for the first time in his career Rafa Nadal, who has defeated him in their previous five matches. The Spaniard reached the quarters thanks to a 6-3, 6-4 victory over Filip Krajinovic.
