Football News : Toni Kroos insisted on retiring at Real Madrid

Despite stating that he will "retire" with Real Madrid, Toni Kroos has not formally committed to signing a new contract with the reigning Spanish and European champions. The 32-year-old, who has made 16 appearances across all competitions and contributed three assists this season, has once again been a key member of Carlo Ancelotti's team.

However, Kroos' contract at Bernabeu is set to expire in June of next year, and there have been numerous rumours about what will happen to him in the Spanish capital.

Even though the German has claimed to be "relaxed" about his circumstances, he has once more stated his intention to retire at Los Blancos, whether that be this summer or in the future.

Real Madrid lost to RB Leipzig in the Champions League last week before being held to a 1-1 draw by Girona in the league on Sunday, leading to speculation that some of its players could use a break.

Kroos asserted that only the most recent two results had given rise to fatigue allegations. Real Madrid has to defeat Celtic on Wednesday in the Champions League in order to assure that they will finish first in Group F. The midfielder is expected to play in that game.

However, Kroos won't play against Rayo Vallecano in La Liga on Monday because he was sent off late in the last match, a 1-1 draw with Girona.

"I can only speak for myself. I've got a rest coming up [because of the suspension] so that helps me not to worry about tiredness, but I'm feeling good physically,"

he added.

"People are only talking about [the calendar and tiredness] because we have gone two games without winning. Before, no one was talking about it."

Although Kroos retired from international football last year, he will not play for Germany at the 2018 World Cup. Kroos claimed that he could not choose between club success and international achievement.

"That's very tough. The World Cup is played every four years and you can only play in two or three, but I'm not going to choose. They are very special moments,"

he added.

Kroos moved to Real Madrid from Bayern Munich in 2014, and since then, he has made 381 appearances for the Spanish powerhouse across all competitions, scoring 25 goals and dishing out 86 assists.

The midfielder has also seen great success in terms of trophies at the Bernabeu, winning three La Liga championships, four Champions League trophies, as well as trophies in the Spanish Super Cup, UEFA Super Club, and Club World Cup.
