Football News : Liverpool made Napoli taste their first defeat this season

Mohamed Salah and Darwin Nunez both scored goals in the final five minutes of regulation time as Liverpool defeated Napoli 2-0 at Anfield in the Champions League. Salah pounced on a rebound after Alex Meret saved substitute Nunez's header despite standing safely behind his goal lineand furiously attempting to paw Salah's strike away in his characteristically quick fashion.

Similar to the last goal, Nunez doubled Liverpool's advantage with the game's final kick. After Meret had saved Virgil van Dijk's header, Nunez moved quickly to tap the ball home, and a thorough VAR review correctly determined that Uruguay's striker had been placed onside by Piotr Zielinski.

Prior to Sunday's crucial Premier League match against Tottenham Hotspur, who joined them in the knockout stages with a 2-1 win away to Marseille,

Jurgen Klopp's side should benefit from tonight's victory over Napoli, who came to Anfield on a 13-match winning streak in all competitions since defeating the Reds 4-1 in early September.

However, it fell short of the four-goal gap needed to surpass Napoli at the top of Group A,and depending on tomorrow night's results, the Reds can wind up playing Real Madrid, Paris Saint-Germain, or Bayern Munich in the round of 16.

Given that both teams had already secured their spots in the knockout rounds, it was an unusually physical match that saw many early tackles fly. Khvicha Kvaratskhelia kept up his unstoppable form by illuminating one of football's most illustrious stadiums with his speed and trickery down the left flank.

However, neither goalkeeper faced much of a challenge in the opening period; however, following the interval, they were unquestionably put to the test more regularly until Napoli appeared to have grabbed the lead via Leo Ostigard's clear-cut header.

Kvaratskhelia's inswinging free kick was ruled to have been slightly offside by the central defender, who has recently been on loan at Coventry City and Stoke City. Five minutes later, the Georgian winger's shot rebounded off Trent Alexander-Arnold and gladly fell into Alisson's arms.

Meret was also helpless to stop his club from suffering their first loss of the season as Salah's instinctive volley at full stretch was stabbed straight down his throat. This is despite keeping out the initial efforts in the build-up to both Salah's and Nunez's goals.
