Football News : Manchester United earns a well-deserved win over Tottenham Hotspur

A tenacious Manchester United team put up a fight against a lacklustre Tottenham Hotspur team at Old Trafford as the Red Devils won the Premier League match 2-0.

Before tonight's game, Tottenham manager Antonio Conte had lost all three of his managerial encounters at the Theatre of Dreams, and goals from Fred and Bruno Fernandes in the second half made it four losses in a row for the Italian.

The hosts had 13 shots before the half-hour mark but failed to score, giving Erik ten Hag's team a brief moment to think back on a string of lost opportunities. Hugo Lloris, who played excellently for the Lilywhites, stopped close-range shots from Marcus Rashford and Luke Shaw, and Antony also struck the outside of the post after cutting inside on his left foot of choice.

Casemiro also missed the post with a long-range effort, but Conte's team provided little resistance to Man United's domination and would pay the price just after halftime.

The energetic Bruno Fernandes recovered possession for United in the 47th minute, midway inside the Tottenham half. The ball then broke beautifully for Fred, whose feeble side-footed shot didn't look to faze Lloris.

The usually impenetrable Lloris was caught off guard by the Brazilian's shot, which took a large deflection off of Ben Davies. Lloris could do nothing but watch as the ball trickled into the far corner.

Man United's efficient high pressing saw almost no resistance from Conte and his 3-5-2 formation, and the hosts were again rewarded in the 69th minute.

Referee Simon Hooper allowed play to continue after David de Gea successfully stopped a close-range shot from Harry Kane, despite the effort being offside. Man United then successfully played out from the back as Fernandes curled home a beautiful strike from outside the box.

In the waning minutes, Man United continued to have the majority of the chances. Lloris brilliantly reacted low to stop a ferocious Rashford shot before Fernandes scored again, but the Portuguese playmaker was called offside for moving slightly too early.

The win puts Ten Hag's team in fifth position in the standings, but it also narrows the gap to fourth-place Chelsea to just one point. Tottenham stays in third place with 23 points, four points behind leaders Arsenal despite having played one more game.

Man United will try to maintain their momentum when they play Chelsea at Stamford Bridge on Saturday night.
