Football News: Kylian Mbappe to stay at Paris Saint-Germain but never discussed extension

Kylian Mbappe, the Paris Saint-Germain attacker, has ruled out a summer departure from the Parc des Princes, but the 24-year-old has said that he has "never" discussed a contract extension with Les Parisiens.

PSG received a surprise letter from Mbappe on Monday evening, indicating that he will not be exercising his one-year contract extension option.

The France international turned off Real Madrid's interest in 2022 to sign a new two-year contract in Paris, with an option to extend his stay until the summer of 2025.

However, according to the newest reports, PSG intends to sell Mbappe this summer if he continues to refuse to sign a new contract.

If PSG fail to find a buyer for Mbappe, the former Monaco superstar will be able to go for nothing in 2024, a scenario that PSG is anxious to avoid.

Mbappe, on the other hand, is not thinking about leaving this summer, taking to social media to confirm that he plans to stay for the remainder of his contract.

In the midst of speculations that Mbappe is open to a summer move to Real Madrid, the 24-year-old tweeted:

"Lies... At the same time, the bigger it (the story) is, the more it passes. I have already said that I will continue at PSG next season, where I am happy."

Only a few months after signing his new contract last year, Mbappe supposedly thought he had made a mistake in renewing his contract and desired to leave the club.

The striker was thought to be irritated by broken promises made during negotiations, but he continued to shine on the pitch and became PSG's all-time leading scorer in March, surpassing Edinson Cavani with a 201st goal against Nantes.

Christophe Galtier's team were eliminated in the last 16 of the Champions League by Bayern Munich, but Mbappe hinted that he would stay with the club and help them win Europe's top award.

PSG were believed to be stunned by Mbappe's letter as a result, but in a statement to AFP, the 24-year-old insisted that he had never discussed an extension to his current contract with the club, and that they had been aware of his plans since July last year.

"I have never discussed any contract renewal with PSG. The board has been informed since July 15th, 2022 of my decision not to extend beyond 2024 - and the letter sent was only meant to confirm what I already told them,"

Mbappe said.

Despite Mbappe's admission that he wants to stay, PSG could yet look for a suitor for the World Cup champion this summer as the club-player relationship deteriorates further.
