Cricket News: Punjab pip Mumbai in 2nd super over thriller

In a thrilling contest and for the first time in the history of IPL Punjab pip Mumbai in a thrilling 2nd super over contest in Dubai. It was 'Universal boss' Chris Gayle and in-form Mayank Agarwal who got Punjab across the finish line. For the first time in the history of the game, the scores were tied at the end of regulation 20 overs and then the first Super Over. But Mayank Agarwal and Chris Gayle scored 15 runs without any loss in the second Super Over to add two crucial points to their tally and keep their play-off hopes alive. Mumbai won the toss and scored 176/6 in 20 overs with the lone half-century coming from Quinton de Kock and Punjab ended with the same score, thanks to top scorer Rahul, who slammed seven boundaries and three sixes. Chasing the target, KL Rahul played a captain's knock scoring 77 off 51 balls but couldn't finish the job for his side. Jasprit Bumrah's breathtaking performance with the ball brought Mumbai back in the game and the game went to super over. In the first Super Over, Punjab could only manage five runs as Jasprit Bumrah dismissed Nicholas Pooran and KL Rahul. In the second Super Over, Mumbai scored 11 runs with the loss of one wicket and while chasing Punjab opener Chris Gayle along with Mayank Agarwal's boundary was enough to fetch Punjab a pulsating win with two balls to spare. Earlier in the day, Lockie Ferguson's two wickets in the Super Over in addition to three in regular time helped Kolkata beat Hyderabad at the Sheikh Zayed stadium in Abu Dhabi after the match ended in a tie. Ferguson got rid of Hyderabad skipper David Warner for duck and Abdul Samad for 2 in the Super Over, and Kolkata's captain Eoin Morgan and former captain Dinesh Karthik strolled to the target of three runs with three balls to spare. Kolkata captain Eoin Morgan and Dinesh Karthik combined to score 58 runs in the last five overs to take their team to 163/5 earlier in the day. Ferguson earlier brought Kolkata back into the game after the powerplay with figures of 3/15 in four overs.
