Cricket News: Aakash Chopra wants Yashasvi & Tilak to bowl more for India

Yashasvi & Tilak should be given a longer rope and encouraged to bowl as often as possible, according to veteran Indian cricketer Aakash Chopra.

Yashasvi Jaiswal hit a ferocious century in his Test debut against the West Indies. In his second innings, he added a half-century to his total. The Mumbai hitter went on to produce a dashing half-century in his T20I debut earlier this month.

Tilak Varma, on the other hand, wowed fans and critics alike during the T20I series against the West Indies. The southpaw finished the series as India's leading run-scorer with 173 runs in 5 matches.

Captain Hardik Pandya utilised both left-handed hitters with the ball in the fifth T20I in Lauderhill, Florida. Tilak bowled a couple of overs of off-spin and dismissed the in-form Nicholas Pooran. Yashasvi was also spotted rolling his arm over for a leg-spin over.

Former Indian opener Aakash Chopra believes India could make use of Tilak and Yashasvi's bowling ability in the future. He also believed that Washington Sundar should be reintroduced into the T20I picture.

"Considering that most of the current Indian batters don't bowl even a couple of overs, Indian team must start pushing batters who do. Yashasvi-Tilak should be given a longer rope...and encouraged to bowl as often as possible. Washington has to be in India's T20 scheme of things too,"

Chopra wrote on his 'X' handle.

India has picked a squad of young players to compete in the three-match Twenty20 International series against Ireland as well as the Asian Games. However, not many batters are also bowlers.

There is Shahbaz Ahmed, but with Ravindra Jadeja and Axar Patel already in the mix as left-arm orthodox bowlers, the Royal Challengers Bangalore all-rounder's chances appear grim.
