Tennis: Kontaveit advances at Miami Open following Andreescu retirement

Anett Kontaveit advanced to the quarter-finals of the Miami Open on Monday after her fourth round opponent, Bianca Andreescu, retired with a shoulder injury while trailing 6-1, 2-0. Andreescu became the surprise champion at Indian Wells a week ago when she beat Angelique Kerber in the final. The 18-year-old Canadian then claimed another victory over Kerber in the third round of the Miami Open on Sunday - her 10th straight match win, but fatigue had clearly taken its toll and she struggled from the start against Kontaveit. Andreescu called it a day after 56 minutes on court and Kontaveit, the number 21 seed, advanced to the quarter-finals where she will face Taiwanese veteran Hsieh Su-wei, currently ranked a career-high 23rd in the world.
