Ninth seed Nikoloz Basilashvili of Georgia recovered from a set down to beat South Korea's Hyeon Chung 4-6, 7-6(1), 6-2 in the first round of the World Tennis Tournament in Rotterdam, Netherlands. It was the first head-to-head between both players. Chung, a former Australian Open semi-finalist and ranked 52nd in the world, took the first set 6-4. But world number 20 Basilashvili edged a second set tiebreak and then comfortable won the third 6-2 to seal victory after two hours and 19 minutes.
