Alexander Zverev, in the far court, has completed a rare feat. The world number 6 has now beaten Rafael Nadal three times in a row. But this is the first time on clay. The 24-year-old who is ten years younger than an ageing Nadal took the first set 6-4. The second was the same scoreline, as the 5-time winner here in Madrid had to produce his best tennis just to keep up with Zverev. The powerful German is through to the semi-finals while Nadal will lick his wounds ahead of the Italian open next week. Zverev will face 3rd seed Dominic Thiem who had to come back from a set down against big-serving John Isner. But slowly the Austrian began to read the serve better, and a tiring Isner soon ran out of answers. The man who got to the final of the 2018 and 19 French Opens, showed his predigree taking the ast two sets 6-3, 6-4 in a now wide open Madrid Open.
