Tennis: Verdasco beats fellow Spaniard Lopez in first round at Barcelona Open

Seasoned veterans Fernando Verdasco and Feliciano Lopez faced each other in an all-Spanish showdown at the Barcelona Open on Monday. Lopez has dropped from 30th to 88th in the world over the last year, while 37th-ranked Verdasco has recently taken time out following the birth of his first child. But there was no sign of rust as Verdasco broke once late in the first set, then recovered from dropping his opening service game in the second to win the match 6-4, 6-3. Verdasco will play Grigor Dimitrov, who received a first-round bye, in the second round.
