Nicolas Jarry knocked out number two seed Alexander Zverev in three sets to reach the third round of the Barcelona Open. Jarry - a lucky loser in the tournament - and Zverev had never played each other before. Since finishing as runner-up in Acapulco in February, Zverev had entered four tournaments but had failed to win more than one match in any of them. Against Jarry, the German broke twice to take the opening set 6-3 before the Chilean broke in the eleventh game of the second, taking the set 7-5 to send the match into a decider. In the third set, Zverev had match point when leading 6-5 before Jarry finally won the day in a tie-break, which he took 7-5. The 3-6, 7-5, 7-6(5) victory came in two hours and 33 minutes.
