Manchester United are reportedly planning to increase their interest in Tottenham Hotspur's Harry Kane. The Reds Devils are further looking to complete an £80 million transfer this summer.
While speculation about Kane's future rages on in the background, there are no talks regarding a new contract. Kane has the option to leave Tottenham as a free agent at the conclusion of next season, but it has been speculated the Lilywhites will fight tooth and nail to keep their all-time leading goalscorer.
Kane and Tottenham are reported to be in preliminary talks on a new contract right now. Tottenham are even thought to be willing to extend negotiations into the final year of Kane's contract.
The Lilywhites' determination will surely be put to the test this summer with elite European clubs seeking Kane. While Manchester United and Bayern Munich being mentioned as the two most likely destinations for the 29-year-old.
The arrival of Thomas Tuchel at Bayern Munich is reported to have increased the Bundesliga champions' prospects of signing Kane but Manchester United have devised a strategy to beat their German competitors to his signature.
According to the Daily Star, Man United CEO Richard Arnold has approved an approach, and Erik ten Hag sees the England captain as his top summer goal.
The Red Devils are reportedly hoping that £80 million will be enough to entice Kane away from the North London club, which is expecting contact from Man United in the coming weeks.
Man United intend to get a jump on their competitors by starting talks before the conclusion of the season, and Kane is said to favour Old Trafford as a summer destination, despite interest from Chelsea and Barcelona.
According to the report, Ten Hag believes Kane's purchase will turn Manchester United become title challengers, but Daniel Levy will play hardball.
Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy refused to authorise a nine-figure transfer for Kane to Manchester City in 2021, and he is also unlikely to sell to a direct Premier League opponent.
Yet, with 204 Premier League goals - 56 short of Alan Shearer's all-time record of 260 - Kane has hinted that he wants to stay in England in order to overtake his colleague.
After becoming England's all-time best goalscorer, Kane was asked by Prime Minister Rishi Sunak if he planned to break Shearer's record, to which the striker replied:
"Yeah it's definitely there. I'm getting closer, so it's for sure something I want to achieve, but I try not to look too far ahead in football."
"A lot can change in a short period of time, but I'm feeling fit - I'm 29 - so hopefully got plenty of years left. For sure, it'd be something I'd love to do."
Kane has 271 goals and 63 assists in 425 Tottenham matches, but he will turn 30 this summer without having won a major club prize.
