Manchester United are allegedly interested in signing Wolverhampton Wanderers midfielder Ruben Neves this summer. At the close of last season, it appeared that Neves was on his way out of Molineux, having stated his desire for a fresh challenge.
But, when adequate bids for the Portugal international failed to materialise, he remained at a club. Now, Neves has become a legendary character in his nearly six-year stay with Wolves.
Yet, with little over 15 months left on his contract, curiosity about the 26-year-old's long-term future continues. If Wolves remain in the Premier League and concrete bids are scarce, Neves might stay and possibly sign a one-year deal.
Having said that, Sport reports that United are already in talks to sign Neves for the 2023-24 season. According to the report, Neves and his representatives are negotiating a move to Old Trafford.
Meanwhile, Barcelona was also interested in the midfielder but now it looks like they are alleged to have dropped their interest. Although the Catalan giants were willing to sign Neves, it has been stated on multiple occasions that head coach Xavi does not consider him an essential addition.
However, it is claimed that a move to Manchester United is far more possible, with the Red Devils set to be looking for a new central midfielder in the summer.
While Casemiro, Fred, and Christian Eriksen are expected to stay in Erik ten Hag's team, Scott McTominay is expected to be sold, while Marcel Sabitzer is set to return to parent club Bayern Munich.
Liverpool and Chelsea are both said to be interested, though it is questionable whether the latter will renew their interest given their roster choices.
During his 245 appearances with Wolves, Neves has 29 goals and 12 assists, with 28 of those goals coming in the Premier League.
