Football News: Manchester United hoping to raise £100m by selling unwanted trio

Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag is said to be hoping that selling Harry Maguire, Fred, and Anthony Elanga this summer will add up to £100 million to his summer budget.

On Wednesday, the Red Devils made their first signing of the current transfer window, investing an initial £55 million to recruit Mason Mount from Chelsea.

The club is also said to have made a second bid for Inter Milan custodian Andre Onana, and a deal for the Cameroonian would leave little room in the budget for a new striker unless there are exits.

According to The Guardian, Maguire, Fred, and Elanga are available for transfer this summer, and their departures may benefit up to £100 million.

According to the article, Maguire could command a cost of £40 million, while the Red Devils would seek £30 million for Fred and Elanga, who are said to be of interest to a number of clubs.

Maguire was dropped from the starting lineup at Old Trafford last season and has been heavily linked with a move away from the club throughout the summer transfer window.

Newcastle United, West Ham United, and Paris Saint-Germain have all been connected with the 30-year-old, but the Red Devils are reportedly finding it difficult to sell him because of his recent salary raise.

Maguire, who is still captain of the club, only started eight Premier League games last season, with Lisandro Martinez, Raphael Varane, Victor Lindelof, and Luke Shaw all ahead of him in the pecking order.

Meanwhile, Fred is being widely connected with a departure from the club, with the Brazil international thought to be surplus to needs ahead of the new season.

Casemiro, Christian Eriksen, and Bruno Fernandes are all anticipated to start in midfield next season, while Mount is also expected to play in that position.

Fred, who is desired by Fulham and Roma, only started 12 Premier League games last season, despite appearing on 56 occasions in all competitions.

Meanwhile, Elanga is thought to be available for transfer, with the 21-year-old fighting for playing time in the later stages of the 2022-23 season.

Last season, the Sweden international made just five Premier League starts, and his most recent outing in England's top division was a 7-0 loss to Liverpool at the start of March.

Man United returned to pre-season training on Thursday, but Maguire, Fred, and Elanga were absent owing to recent international commitments.
