Football News : Manchester City to complete the signing of Sergio Gomez today

Aderlecht's left back Later on Thursday, Sergio Gomez is reportedly going to sign with Premier League champions Manchester City. Gomez, who will replace Oleksandr Zinchenko at the Etihad, is expected to have been signed by Pep Guardiola's team for a cost in excess of €15 million.

Prior to joining Anderlecht last summer, the 21-year-old progressed through the development systems at Barcelona and Borussia Dortmund. He had a successful first season in Belgium.

For Anderlecht, Gomez accrued seven goals and 15 assists in 49 games across all leagues, and his 12 goal-assisting assists in the Jupiler Pro League caught City's eye. The Spain Under-21 international, who has five goals and six assists from eight appearances for his country while playing in a more forward position, still has three years left on his contract with Anderlecht, but it appears that he will leave after just one year.

The Daily Mail reports that Gomez will complete the necessary paperwork for his transfer to Manchester City later on Thursday and can sign his contract on the same day. Gomez hopes to join Man City's first team right away, but there is a chance that the La Masia graduate may spend the rest of the season on loan at Girona.

Joao Cancelo has filled in admirably at left back for the Citizens, who have also used Nathan Ake and Aymeric Laporte in that position while Benjamin Mendy is still on the club's suspension list.

Thus, Sergio Gomez might not get a chance to make an appearance for the Citizens this season.

Gomez would offer a more well-known option in that position, and the Spaniard has already shown his adaptability during his brief career by playing on the flank and in the centre of midfield.

After leaving Barcelona in January 2018, the former Huesca loanee made just three professional games for Dortmund, but he has won both the Under-17 and Under-19 European Championships with Spain.

The Manchester Evening News reports that City would continue to look for another left-back even if a deal for Gomez is completed soon after conceding loss to Chelsea in the competition for Marc Cucurella.

Guerreiro, a Portuguese international, is currently in the penultimate year of his contract with Dortmund, which raises the possibility of a discounted agreement before he becomes a free agency at the conclusion of the current campaign.

Gomez from Anderlecht is on track to become City's fourth summer signing, joining Erling Braut Haaland, Stefan Ortega, and Kalvin Phillips on the blue side of Manchester.

When newly promoted Bournemouth visits the Etihad Stadium on Saturday, Guardiola's team will want to make it 2-0 in the 2022-23 Premier League season.
