Football News: Erik ten Hag 'wants new striker at Manchester United before new season

Manchester United head coach Erik ten Hag is apparently looking for a new striker before the club's pre-season tour. Ahead of the 2023/24 season, the Red Devils will travel to United States to begin their pre-season tour in July.

The 20-time English champions will prioritise a new centre-forward signing in the next transfer window. Tottenham Hotspur's Harry Kane and Napoli's Victor Osimhen are seen as the club's top transfer targets.

According to ESPN, Ten Hag wants to finish the majority of his transfer business before the start of pre-season.

Cristiano Ronaldo's contract with Manchester United was terminated at the end of last year following an explosive interview with Piers Morgan on TalkTV.

Anthony Martial began the 2022-23 season as the team's first-choice forward, but the Frenchman has been plagued by injuries throughout the season.

The 27-year-old has only made 14 appearances across all competitions due to a hip injury that has recently rendered him unfit for selection.

Marcus Rashford has been in superb form this season, scoring 27 goals across all competitions, while on-loan attacker Wout Weghorst has only scored twice since his January arrival.

Weghorst will return to Burnley at the end of the season, yet the 30-year-old might be signed as a backup to a big-name center-forward.

Rasmus Hojlund of Atalanta BC is also said to be a target for Manchester United, while Evan Ferguson of Brighton & Hove Albion is being linked with a move to Old Trafford.

Kane's future at Tottenham is once again being questioned, with the England captain reportedly pondering a transfer away from the North London club this summer.

The 29-year-old, who is only under contract at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium until next summer, has been in fine form this season, scoring 23 goals and registering four assists in 39 club appearances.

Man United, on the other hand, are unlikely to be able to persuade Spurs to sell to a domestic competitor.

Meanwhile, Osimhen has 25 goals and five assists in 29 appearances this season, and he has been extensively linked with a move to Manchester.

Any deal for the 24-year-old is estimated to cost around £100 million, and it remains to be seen whether Manchester United are willing to pay that price for the Nigeria international.
