There have apparently been talks between Chelsea and Paris Saint-Germain star Neymar about a possible deal. PSG acquired Neymar from Barcelona for a transfer record fee of £200 million in 2017.
The Brazilian international's contract with PSG runs until June 2025 and includes a year-long extension clause. His long-term status at the club is, however, questionable in the near future. In light of a recent report that claimed he was considering leaving alongside Lionel Messi in the summer.
And now Le Parisien claims that Chelsea and PSG are negotiating a deal for the Brazilian. According to the report, Chelsea co-owner Todd Boehly has travelled to Paris to meet with the French champions.
The Blues have spent more than £600 million on players over the past two transfer windows. While this month, they smashed the British transfer record by paying £107 million to get Enzo Fernandez from Benfica. If the Blues want to recruit Neymar in the upcoming summer transfer window, Chelsea might have to spend another sizable money.
In 172 games for PSG, Neymar has tallied 117 goals and 76 assists, yet there is speculation that the French club may be open to a transfer.
Moreover, reports claim that the Qatari owners of PSG are apparently sick of Neymar and are ready to approve a transfer at the end of the current campaign.
After the pair disagreed over who would take penalties early this season, Neymar's relationships with some of his PSG colleagues, especially Kylian Mbappe, have soured this season.
The Brazilian also acknowledged that he and PSG director Luis Campos and teammate Marquinhos got into a fight after their 3-1 loss to Monaco on Saturday.
After the game, Campos barged into the locker room and charged at the players, accusing them of lacking aggression. Neymar and Marquinhos retaliated angrily.
Commenting on the incident, Neymar said:
"It has happened. We didn't agree with what was being said at that time, so we had a discussion about it. I speak to my friends every day, and I love all of them. It is like that with my girlfriend as well."
"We talk about football, all of us. Football is about communicating. Of course, there is respect on both sides, and sometimes you don't agree on things."
"So there might be a discussion to improve the team, the atmosphere, our play. We have lost a few games and we are frustrated about that. We want to win all the time."
"When those defeats come around, it hurts, so discussions are part of that. That can help us improve as a team. I think it has helped because we cleared things up. We know what we are all thinking."
This season, Neymar has made 28 appearances for PSG and has contributed 16 assists in addition to 17 goals.
