Cricket News: Team India’s qualification scenario for World Test Championship final

India won the first two Test matches of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy. The Men in Blues defeated Australia in the opening Test match at Nagpur by an innings and 132 runs.

By defeating Australia in the second Test by a margin of six wickets, the hosts were able to retain the Border-Gavaskar Trophy. As a result of which team India have now moved closer to the World Test Championship's (WTC) final berth.

Sri Lanka also has the opportunity to compete in the WTC final in June. For that the Lankans must defeat New Zealand in both of their upcoming Test matches.

While India hopes to secure a spot in the WTC final after a convincing victory against Australia in the second Test.

India's points percentage increased to 64.06 after winning the Test in Delhi, going from 61.66 to that level. India is in second place and has won ten of its last 16 games while losing four and drawing two.

Australia, on the other hand, must avoid a 4-0 rout to maintain their prospects of making the WTC final; but, if they lose 4-0, they will be reliant on other outcomes. After losing to India in the second Test, the table-toppers' points percentage dropped from 70.83 PCT to 66.67.

In order to secure a position in the WTC final, Team India needs to win just one of the two remaining Test matches against Australia.

Australia needs to avoid losing the current series by 4-0 against India. To advance to the WTC championship game, Australia needs to win one of the two remaining games. While to remain in the running, Sri Lanka must defeat New Zealand in their final two Test matches.
