He may still be unsure of his spot in India’s World Cup-bound team but Rishabh Pant is beginning to reap the rewards of a highly successful 2018 in international cricket, which saw him become the first Indian wicketkeeper to smash Test hundreds in England and Australia. Though he was not even a part of the 26-man contracted players list in 2017-18, and made his Test debut only last year against England, Pant bagged a lucrative contract as the BCCI announced its annual retainers list for the 2018-19 season. The 21-year-old explosive ‘keeper-bat has been placed in Category A, which carries a retainer worth Rs 5 crore. It’s the second-most lucrative retainer, only one rung below the A plus category, which was introduced last year for players that feature in all three formats.
