Cricket News: ICC issues 2023 World Cup ultimatum to BCCI

ICC has threatened BCCI to take away hosting rights of 2021 Champions Trophy and the 2023 50-over World Cup from them, if, the Indian board fails to pay 23 million US dollars before December 31 to compensate for the tax deductions incurred in hosting the 2016 World T20 in India. According to ICC, they were promised by then BCCI president N Srinivasan that BCCI would compensate ICC for tax deductions incurred in hosting the 2016 World T20 in India, should they not receive a waiver from the government. Star TV, had deducted all taxes before paying the global body for the World T20 played in 2016. The ICC has also threatened the Indian board that a failure to comply with the demands would make them deduct the amount from the revenue share for the ongoing financial year. The BCCI, in turn, has asked the ICC to share the minutes of any meeting where it is recorded that India had agreed to a tax waiver.
