Chess News: Surya Sekhar Ganguly claims Chess World Cup berth

Indian grandmaster Surya Shekhar Ganguly qualified for the Chess World Cup that is scheduled to be held next year in Russia with a fourth-place finish at the Asian Continental Chess Championship. Surya who led the field in the 17th Asian Continental Chess Championship in the Philippines till the penultimate round, missed out on a podium finish after losing his final-round game to Le Quang Liem of Vietnam. Surya was the only Indian in the Open group to finish in the top five, all of whom were assured of World Cup berths. It was, thus, a mixed feeling for the Kolkata boy.
